To the Argyle Farm Market & Bakery!

Argyle Farm Market & Bakery, located in the tiny hamlet of Argyle, Ontario, was originally known as the Royal Hotel and later as ‘the old Argyle Hotel’, built in 1891 after a fire that destroyed the original wooden structure. This fine old Hotel serviced passengers and crew of the Toronto and Nipissing Railway Line which passed through the property on its way to Coboconk.

Having grown up on a farm just north of Argyle, Marianne knew the Hotel would be just the property for Ken and Marianne’s vision of a thriving pick-your-own operation and farm market. Their plans included selling fresh produce and products from local area farmers as well as Niagara fruits for seasonal customers. And after three and a half years of working regular day jobs, renovations, rezoning applications and planting their first crops, the Bartleys opened the Argyle Farm Market and Bakery.

The Market now takes up the main floor as well as the new verandah and pergola. Ken and Marianne live on the second and third floors and love the 5 a.m. commute to work in the morning to start the daily production of fresh breads, pies, Chelsea buns and other treats. They still work long hours and love every minute of it.
